Well, as promised, we went to Kew Gardens on Saturday. And what a lovely day it was as well.
Bright and sunny, great for photography, and warm as well. It was apparently 63F (17c) At Kew on Saturday. Spring has definitely sprung!
We arrived around 10.15 and made our way to the cafe first to have a hot drink and some lovely lemon drizzle cake!
Suitably refreshed we made our way outside and started taking a few photos along the way to the Princess Of Wales Conservatory to look at the orchids.
Unfortunately there weren’t many orchids there but Yvonne was happy enough to take a few shots of them.
Outside the weather was warming up and we spent the next hour or so walking around as far as Kew Palace taking photos of the wildlife, trees and some of the Henry Moor exhibits that are in the grounds at the moment. Loads of crocuses were in bloom but not so many daffodils or snowdrops yet.
Lunchtime soon came and we went back to Kew Village to a nice pub/restaurant there where we had a really good meal that only came to £15 between us, including drinks.
Well after the meal all we wanted to do was sleep….but…we were there to take photos so, after looking in a few of the local shops, we went back to the Gardens.
This time we made our way to the lake and river. The River Thames runs around one side of Kew Gardens and just across the river is Syon House, another well known landmark in London.
We sat by the river for a while watching life go by and generally relaxing and letting our meal go down. Then we started to make our way back via the lake.
There are so many good places to take photos there, both landscapes and wildlife.
Eventually we left Kew around 3.30 after an excellent day of walking and taking photos and generally enjoying life…with a good meal thrown in!
Kew is a really good place to go for people of all ages. I don’t know how many were there on Saturday because it’s such a vast place but there were maybe a couple of thousand, although it never seems to be crowded.
People of all ages go there….pensioners having a walk…families with their children…people just strolling or maybe taking a book or newspaper to read on one of the many park benches.
Also along the riverbank you see people walking, jogging, cycling, rowing on the river. You would never think you were so close to a major city like London if it wasn’t for the planes going into Heathrow every minute or so….but even then you forget about the planes when you can see and hear so much beauty.
We have already put some new photos from Saturday’s visit on to our website and more will follow in the next few days hopefully.
We hope to go back again in a couple of weeks to get some photos of the spring flowers when they all come into bloom.
